Admission

Going to a new school is a very important step for your child. We want to make the process of applying for a school place as easy as possible for all parents and carers.

Heather Garth is the admission authority for the academy.  Details of the admission arrangements can be found below:

FS1 (Nursery)

FS1 places are available for 3- and 4-year-olds. The Academy manage the Nursery waiting list.  Please contact the school for information and organise a visit.  See FS1 Admission Policy

FS2 (Reception)
Children who will have their fifth birthday during an academic year are admitted into FS2 in September at the start of that year.

The number of admission places for each academic year is 30. Places are applied for through the Local Authority (LA) and are allocated centrally. The school itself is not involved in this process, but we are happy to give you any guidance on the procedure and to show you around our school. The LA has an appeals procedure if your child is not allocated a place.

To apply for a place at Heather Garth for any year group Foundation Stage to Year 6, it is necessary to complete a Local Authority application form, these can be found in the LA admissions booklet. It is also possible to complete the form on-line at the BMBC website.

BMBC School Admissions

This form needs to be returned to the school or LA by mid November for pupils starting school in the following academic year.

Appeal and Complaints

Parents who are refused a place at a school for which they have applied have the statutory right of appeal to an independent admission appeal panel.

As the purpose of an appeal is to determine whether a child should be admitted to a particular school parents do NOT have a right of appeal if they have been offered a place but it is not in the year group they would like.

Transfer to Secondary School
At the end of Year 6, children transfer to local secondary schools, usually The Dearne ALC, Wath Comprehensive School or Saint Pius X Catholic Secondary School. We try to ensure that the transition is as smooth and stress free as possible. The children have an opportunity to meet secondary school staff and to visit their chosen school, prior to their transfer. At these visits Year 6 pupils are able to meet their new teachers and become familiar with the buildings. In conjunction with secondary school staff, we aim to make this important transition as successful as possible.
