Welcome to Heather Garth Foundation Stage!

Foundation Stage is made up of our Nursery (FS1) and our Reception class (FS2).  We work together to provide a caring and stimulating learning environment and to meet the needs of each individual child.  We are committed to the highest standards of teaching and learning achieved through a combination of challenge, support, encouragement and praise.

Foundation Stage 2 is taught by Mr Fisher, who is also the EYFS Leader. In FS2 we aim to foster independence from the first day. Children are encouraged to do as much for themselves as they can, to support them to become independent learners.

The Foundation Stage Unit has been designed and organised to promote positive engaging environments for children to learn in. We believe in the importance of outdoor learning and use our exciting outdoor area regularly for our continuous provision and adult led directed activities.

We want our children to enjoy their first experience of school life and give them the secure foundations and enthusiasm to begin their learning journey.

Things you’ll need to know:

Foundation Stage do not need a PE Kit. We currently complete P.E in the hall with Mr Hassan, where we take off our shoes and socks. They do need weather appropriate outdoor clothing. This includes a warm coat for the colder weather and sensible shoes (velcro or slip on shoes please). Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather of the day.

FS2 have milk in the morning and a healthy snack in the afternoon – they do not need money for the snack.   Milk for the under 5's is free until the beginning of the term in which the child turns 5.  You will be notified by the school office when and how to order your child's milk.  If you are in receipt of benefits which may qualify your child for free school meals, please speak with the school office as milk may be free for your child.

FS2 Book packs are changed on a Friday but please send your child’s backpack to school every day as we put letters from school and their pictures inside.

Please fill in the reading record so we know that your child has read at home.

Your child will also bring home a yellow book with a 'Learning Log' in it. These will be some tasks for you to complete at home to support our learning in class. We would appreciate your support with completing this, please speak to a member of staff if you have any questions.

Your child will need a change of footwear for indoor use.  Pupils can wear pumps, crocs or slippers for indoor use, but NO big novelty slippers please.

Please click on the picture below to see the age related expectations your child should be working towards by the end of FS 2.
