Conisbrough Castle Trip

Date: 5th Mar 2026 @ 11:42am

We had the most wonderful time at Conisbrough Castle on Tuesday. Even the sun was shining.

When we got to the castle we were met with the fantastic staff and we thouroughly enjoyed our workshop led by Janet. We found out all about what life was like at Conisbrough Castle. We found out all about the steward who ran the castle, the cook who prepared the feast - we even found out how to make mutton pie! We then found out about the Knight and his role in running the castle and the farmer who provided all the food for everyone to eat. We also discovered what happened when the King (Henry the Second) came to visit. Some of us were very lucky to be able to dress up as different from the past - can you spot who was Lord Hamelin and Lady Isobel?

We had to write 200 letters with quill and ink, bake a mutton pie, help the farmer and we even got to smell what it was like in the kitchens and on the farm - both very smelly!

We also found out that the castle is 850 years old!

Then we explored all around the castle itself - we spotted the Garderobe, Chapel, the battlements and the very thick castle walls. We did climb a lot of stairs!
